All I want for Christmas is Open Science
December 14 @ 18:45 – 22:00
There is growing attention for Open Science, but many steps still have to be made. With this meeting we aim to turn our Christmas wish into concrete ideas which can be applied to the current educational system of the Life Sciences.
‘All I want for Christmas is Open Science’ will be an evening to discuss the practices of Open Science, and to gather the voice of students to make these practices become an actual part of the curricula. Open Science is an active process, which needs to be actively learned. So what better place there is than a university?
As Biomedical Sciences students at VU Amsterdam we think Open Science is only minimally encountered in the study program. Indeed, if Open Science should become the norm in how to perform science (as has been documented by minister Dijkgraaf in the policy agreement 2022) we have to start at the universities, because students are the future scientists. This meeting is initiated by student forstudents as a call for action and to shape the curricula the way it fits our needs.
This evening focuses on the Life Sciences, but everyone is welcome – teachers, researchers, and students from all faculties – to create an as open as possible discussion and gather suggestions from various points of view.
In collaboration with the Open Science community of VU Amsterdam we welcome you for this evening in December. Afterwards there will be drinks complementing the festivities of the last month of the year and to celebrate science. Participation is free, but registration is necessary.
